Annual Diocesan Altar Server/Youth Choir Appreciation Day - 24 June, 2008
On June 24th, 15 members of St. Mary's Altar Servers and Youth Choir attended the picnic and Defenders game at Dodd Stadium. This year the appreciation day consisted of Mass at St. Bernard's celebrated by Bishop Cote followed by games and the annual rope pull. Then the youth were transported to Dodd Stadium for a picnic and the game between the Defenders and the Portland Sea Dogs. Because the Groton students were still in school half-day on the 24th, St. Mary's youth only participated in the picnic and game. There was lots of food and beverages and a wonderful day for a ball game. Although the Defenders didn't win, they gave the fans a real boost as they came within one run of tying the game in the 9th inning. Several of the youth went home with baseballs from the game and some with autographs. The pictures taken by Deacon Paul tell some of the story. Deacon Doug, Deacon Paul, Michelle Behr, and Christine Wallen accompanied the youth to Dodd Stadium.
